Knowing of the Demon of Fear, she realized that he would come after her, as he had to kill thirteen unmarried witches in order to be freed permanently from Purgatory. To prepare, Zoe tried to remove all of her fears, which she thought she did, but when Barbas finally arrived to claim her life, he used his power to see that she still had a fear of fire, which she only repressed. He proceeded to use it to kill her, making her believe the room was alight and burning. She died because her heart gave out, not because of smoke inhalation like the police thought, becoming one of his thirteen planned victims.
Her Body Discovered
Merely seconds before Zoe's death, Prue Halliwell heard her screams and used her power to open the door leading into her apartment. She found Zoe dead, with her hair turned white from fear. The police arrived and the coroner began an autopsy. He declared that her heart had given out and that no burn marks had been found on her body and she hadn't died of smoke inhalation.
