Tyler Carlson was an African-American man, who was a member of a modern cult called the Disciples of Thoth. He "adopted" Paige Matthews, who had transformed into a cat with a spell, and used her for a ritual that accidentally sent them both back in time.
Tyler only appeared in the book, Shadow of the Sphinx.
History[]
Early Life[]
Tyler grew up in the foster system after his mother died. He never knew his father. Throughout his childhood, he preferred to bury himself in books about ancient Egypt rather than make friends, and when he became old enough to live on his own, he joined a cult called the Disciples of Thoth.
Going Back in Time[]
Tyler went to the animal shelter one evening where he met a brown furred feline and adopted her for a ritual to connect with the gods. Paige's magic connected with the spell, and she and Tyler were accidentally sent back to the ancient times.
While Tyler enjoyed the trip, Paige was more interested in finding a way back. Believing himself to be magical after using a spell to drive away a crocodile (it was through him channeling Paige's magic), Tyler announced himself as a scribe apprentice at the palace to join the House of Life.
When he eventually understood Paige's words after wishing to understand her, he realized who she was, but was reluctant to return to his own time. Paige's sisters, Piper and Phoebe, found her and managed to make her human seconds before a group of Skull Headed Demons attacked. Tyler was connected to Paige, and thus was able to channel her magic. He fought alongside the sisters, but was ultimately bitten by one of the demons, whose poison killed him in minutes.
Tipket showed her a vision of Tyler's soul in the realm between the living and the dead, where the gods judged his characteristics. Deeming his acts heroic, Tyler's soul moved on to the afterlife.
