Portland is the name of two popular cities in the United States, one in upper Oregon near Seattle, and another in Maine. The show most likely refer to the one located in Oregon, due to its proximity to California, and because that city is more famous that the one in Maine.

Andy Trudeau lived in Portland for a while. He moved back to San Francisco around 1998.[1]
In September 2000, Dan Gordon moved to Portland after receiving a job offer there through a wish made by Piper granted by a genie.[2]
