Muriel Hammond is a 67-year-old bank president and part of a family of Earthshakers in the novel The Brewing Storm.
History[]
Because of her family history, Muriel is already quite familiar with the supernatural world when Piper comes to find her for the ritual to calm the elements. She was in touch with Christopher Young, a Firestarter, and knew what needed to be done before he died. Muriel and Piper are threatened by one of Tempest's Minions at gunpoint until an earthquake distracts her long enough for Piper to throw hot coffee in her face and they escape through Piper's car.
At Halliwell Manor, Muriel tells everyone about the items they need for the ritual and reassures Piper when she gets emotional after hearing about Darryl's accident.
When the Halliwells and the Elementals drive to Crystal Spring Reservoir, where the Circle of Gaea is located for the Ritual of the Guardians, one of the cars nearly falls off a cliff due to an unexpected fireball. Rafe and Muriel combine their powers over the wind and earth to save them. When they reach the circle, they realize the demon Tempest is already there and using the circle to control their powers. All of them are rendered powerless until Darryl tackles the demon out of the circle, allowing the Charmed Ones to vanquish him.
Muriel is instrumental in helping the team complete the Circle of Gaea and guide them through the ritual. She uses a handful of coins as her symbol during the ceremony. She is also the one who told the others about the fifth elemental, namely Darryl Morris when the ritual started.
After the ritual is completed and the weather starts to calm, Muriel has Leo orb her back home.
Personality[]
Muriel comes across as a wise, caring, and gentle woman who advises those around her to find a balance in life. She is also perceived as poised and with a sense of humor and a laid-back attitude.
