Hugh Montgomery is a secondary antagonist in the novel Whispers from the Past. He was a warlock who plotted to turn Prudence Wentworth evil and allied with a demon named Falcroft for this goal.
History[]
Hugh was a resident in Salem who stayed at Prudence's cottage. He first meets Phoebe Halliwell when she gets sent back in time by Falcroft. The townsfolk accused her of being a witch when they saw her belly ring as she was wearing nothing at the time. Hugh immediately stepped in and introduced Phoebe to everyone as his "sister" visiting from Jamestown. Since he was well-respected by the town and charismatic, everyone believed him.
He was tasked to turn Prudence by feeding her a potion to slowly corrupt her, make her jealous and then turn her on Phoebe. When she stopped herself and Phoebe lifted the enchantment, Hugh was furious and tried to kill them both. Piper and Prue arrived in time to stop him.
Seeing no option, Hugh told the townsfolk Prudence was a witch. This, however, infuriated Falcroft, as he wanted Prudence turned before her identity was revealed to the public. Hugh met his demise at Falcroft's hands, who devoured him alive.

Hugh was described to be a tall, dark, and gorgeously handsome man: a lean face with high cheekbones and a square jaw, and steely grey eyes.
