Drew Elson

Drew Elson is a major character in the novel, Inherit the Witch. She is Juliana O'Farrell's daughter, and Lily O'Farrell's best-friend-turned-adoptive-sister.

She is a witch with the power of shapeshifting.

History[]

Infancy[]

Drew was switched at birth by a pair of clan-goids with Lily O'Farrell. She met and befriended Lily in sixth grade, and Lily later told her about witchcraft, which she accepted in stride. Juliana treated her like a second daughter, and she, in turn, adored them both. Her adoptive parents hypnotized her to commit an act of evil when her powers came to be; they sought to turn her evil and feed off her dark energy.

Revelations[]

On Lily's 13th birthday, Drew somehow intercepted her "powers". She was watching Lily and Juliana's ceremony from Lily's bedroom window, and when Lily recited the incantation, Drew recited it with her. When her power manifested, Drew was thrilled to have magic.

Paige suspected that Drew was an agent of evil or a girl manipulated by evil, and threw her suspicions out in the open, causing a verbal riot between Drew and Lily, who called her a thief. The argument turned violent when Drew lost control of her emotions and turned into a lion. Juliana was able to stop the fight by standing in between the girls.

When they tried to transfer her powers to Lily, the O'Farrell ancestor they summoned told them that Lily was not of their blood, but Drew was. No one had time to contemplate what she meant, as they were attacked moments later by Gortag. Drew momentarily turned into a dragon; this stirred up Lily and Drew's combined knowledge of mythological creatures and gave them an idea. Juliana attacked the demon with fire, while Drew transformed into a phoenix and detained Gortag's spiritual form in the flames until they were both vanquished. Drew reconstituted herself minutes later, as phoenixes resurrect after death.

The Elsons then brainwashed her and tried to make her commit a crime to turn her evil, a condition of the Window of Opportunity in which a new witch can be swayed to either side within forty-eight hours of her powers' awakening. Lily was able to stop her and make her a permanent good witch. With the demons vanquished, Juliana was given custody of Drew.

Powers and Abilities[]

Basic Powers
  • Spell Casting: The ability to cast spells and perform rituals.
  • Potion Brewing: The ability to brew potions.
  • Scrying: The ability to locate another being or object with the use of a map and crystal.
  • Mediumship: The ability to commune with spirits of the dead.
Active Powers
  • Shapeshifting: The ability to transform into another being. Drew's shapeshifting was so powerful that she could transform into mythological animals, such as a dragon or a phoenix, and obtain their mythical abilities.

Notes and Trivia[]

  • While the show stated that a new witch won't immediately have a Whitelighter to protect them, Leo was able to sense her right after she awakened her powers.
