Anoraq was a demon who was left powerless when the Darklighter Rennek switched magic from magical beings to mortals. He was protected by Prue Halliwell from a dangerous gang of magic users in exchange for information. After he was saved, Anoraq told Prue that Rennek had stolen the Grimoire from the Underworld.
